Promoting Equity Through Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices
To close the engagement and achievement gaps for students from historically marginalized groups, responsive practices designed to advance equity in the classroom educators are more effective compared to instructional strategies that treat all students as if they were the same. When educators understand how systemic racism and implicit bias impact curricula and assessments, it allows them to develop culturally responsive lessons. This workshop is designed to engage participants in creating a space where they can build trust and communicate clearly with their colleagues while exploring strategies to stop or prevent practices that negatively impact students from different backgrounds.
